Indigo Run, Hilton Head |
|
Indigo Run Plantation is located on the north end of the island, directly across from Hilton Head Plantation, Indigo Run is the final golf and residential community to be developed on Hilton Head Island. The private 1,700-acre plantation borders 278 to the north and Broad Creek on the south, and offers residents a private oasis close to shopping, schools, dining, entertainment and medical services – as well as a long list of amenities within the community.
Heading that list are 36 holes of Nicklaus championship golf. First is The Golf Club, a private members-only club and the first-ever teaming of Jack Nicklaus and son Jack Nicklaus II in the creation of a golf course. The only Nicklaus signature course on the island, it opened in 1996 and was quickly named to Golf Digest’s list of "top ten new private courses.”
But let’s not forget Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run, a popular 18-hole layout created by Nicklaus Design. The Golden Bear has earned a name for itself as one of the top-rated layouts on an island of world-class designs. Membership is open to all Indigo Run property owners.
Both clubs are owned and managed by Club Corporation of America, offering members access to over 200 private clubs worldwide, and both feature their own clubhouses. An expansion of The Golf Club, which includes doubling the size of the dining facilities, is scheduled for completion in July.
“We have a very active social and golf calendar,” said Membership Director Elizabeth Greene. “The expansion will enable us to accommodate greater demand for member activities.”
Residents also enjoy a private recreation center at Sunningdale Park. Within the landscaped complex are an Olympic-sized pool, a playground, and six tennis courts with clay and hard surfaces. In addition there are miles of leisure trails throughout the community. Other amenities – such as private docks on Broad Creek and separate recreation areas – are found in the River Club and Broad Pointe waterfront communities.
Neighborhoods within the Neighborhood
When it comes to property ownership, it may sound like a cliché to say that Indigo Run “offers something for everyone,” but with an eclectic selection of neighborhoods within the community, there really are options for everyone. The folks at The Melrose Company, developers of Indigo Run, like to say that one of the great appeals is the choices available for residents.
“I think it’s a testament to the development plan that in a small community like Indigo Run, you can find five different ‘enclaves’ to select from,” said Drew Butler, broker-in-charge for Indigo Run Real Estate Company. “They all offer something different.”
Indigo Run’s original community, the Golden Bear neighborhood, began development in the early ’90s and features homes and homesites with golf, wooded and lagoon views. Tucked a bit deeper into the community is The Golf Club at Indigo Run, a 600-acre private community surrounding the Nicklaus Signature Course. It features just 285 homesites and its own gate.
If the choice is waterfront, there’s The River Club, a private, gated 58-acre community with only 50 homesites on the banks of the Broad Creek. The River Club has its own residents’ swim and tennis center and features magnificent homes and homesites bordering the deep waters, many with backyard docks. The newer Broad Pointe, a waterfront community overlooking the marshes of Broad Creek, offers 64 estate homesites tucked behind privacy gates.
For those seeking a worry-free lifestyle, the intimate Berwick Green, a small neighborhood of exclusive homes, might be a choice worth considering. Like much of Indigo Run, Berwick Green residents enjoy magnificent golf course views – but they also enjoy the convenience of having their landscaping and common area maintenance taken care of for them.
“I think one of the reasons Indigo Run is in such demand is it appeals to people looking for newer homes. Everything in Indigo Run has been built within the last 10 years – and our homesite selection is probably better than anywhere on the island. By virtue of the fact that Indigo Run is the final development on Hilton Head, it truly is the last of its kind,” said Butler. “I think people are finding that the newness of the community feels good, but, given how well other new golf communities in the area have done, it’s a prudent real estate holding, too.”
